If this quick excerpt from SAY FATHER makes you raise your eyebrows then you should…
What Does Sanctification Mean?
Lost your direction and trying to get your act together, but just can’t? Bad News, YOU never will so quit trying. Yep, that’s the truth. However, there’s Good News. When you fully surrender to HIM, HE will finally get your act together.
Sanctification is the process of God cleaning us up. When we get “saved” we are literally born again in your spirit as I’ve described in the Gospel of the Kingdom a previous post.
John 17:17
Sanctify them by Your word. Your word is truth.
Not only does our spirit get born again, but our soul and body are increasingly becoming more like Jesus in holiness. Righteousness has been defined as “right standing with God.” Jesus made us righteous by paying for our sin and fulfilling what we couldn’t do so that we are able to approach God face to face. Righteousness is ours the moment we become born again, but sanctification happens over time as we yield ourselves to the work of Holy Spirit. I love the word “yield” because it doesn’t require me to do anything but release control and slow down.
It isn’t our job to try and make ourselves better alone. We read His Word and let it show us where we need to change what we believe. We spend time with Him in community, worship, and listening to Holy Spirit. We also do our part by making choices to stay away from things that aren’t good.
I Thessalonians 5:23
Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely; and may your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
As you go forward today, ask God how you might quit working so hard and just yield to His direction. He will answer you when you seek Him. He promises.
