What is Prophetic Art? Jennifer Jones and Glimpses of Glory Studio

Meet my friend, Jennifer Jones, Prophetic Artist. What is prophetic art? What does a prophetic artist do? Can anyone create prophetic art? Hear from Jennifer herself:

I am a native “Abilenenian.” I have lived here all my life and married my high school sweetheart, BRAND JONES in 1981. We have an incredible family that is growing in numbers and I LOVE it!  I attended Hardin Simmons University and majored in Art. I am a lover of the One who created the heavens and the earth, my God who wove me together in my mother’s womb. I am a wife, mother, grandmother, a prophetic artist who longs to live a life that is in awe of God, His mysteries and the beauty of His son Jesus!

I have always been one who is very visual. When I hear a story I see it. When I read a book I’m there and when I pray for someone I often see pictures for that person. When I study God’s Word, images begin to form in my mind. My work reflects those visions and glimpses of God’s vast emotions.

Artists have a unique way of seeing past the surface of their subjects to bring their viewers into new realms. God uses the prophetic artist to cause the shell of hardened culture to crack and to reveal glimpses of glory from God’s heart.

I recently read a wonderful explanation of prophetic art by Matt Tommey.

“Artists are the life-givers in culture. We are a pivotal intersection point where the Kingdom of Heaven meets culture. It is there that we have the unique opportunity, through the power of the Holy Spirit, to translate the Kingdom of Heaven into a language that bypasses words and goes directly into the human spirit.'Click To Tweet

When we collaborate with the Holy Spirit in this dance of Kingdom creativity, His power, His Life and His Light merge with our faith, creative thoughts, imaginations, desires and skill into art that carries the literal presence and power of God. It is in this context that our art, no matter the creative medium becomes prophetic. Every time you create a piece of art, you get the unique opportunity to allow the Father to flow through you by the Holy Spirit to touch the life of the one who is interacting with your work. This process releases the testimony of Jesus through your art – who Jesus is, what He’s done, His presence, glory, power, grace, mercy and healing – it literally releases the Spirit of Prophecy or the Breath (Wind) of God imparting life to the one interacting with your creative expression.

What does the process look like for Jennifer?

The Chair: Come and Sit

This is a painting that was created during a free to create workshop. The question we had before the Lord was, “What does Your Love to me look like?” As I soaked colors began to become vivid to me and then after just soaking in these rich colors, I began to see a simple chair. I got up and began the process of layer upon layer creating the layers of color I had been in. I stood back and realized there was no room for the “chair.” I began asking the Lord where it was supposed to be. As I painted the edges of the piece, I turned it over and there was the perfect place for my chair just to sit and be still. I asked the Lord for the colors of the chair and gently He showed me the lavender and glass green. I felt something blowing over the chair after I had finished painting that night. I set up the piece and suddenly I began to see eyes and a nose looking at the chair/at me through the colors!! The next time I was able to paint I began to pull out the image and realized it was a lion’s nose and the eyes of a lamb blowing over me. I felt the Lord saying slow down and just sit with Me, let Me blow over you. I was falling in love with what I was feeling. I completed the mane, or I thought I was painting a mane. Stood back and looked and found a man’s face looking at the chair, then an eagle and several other images. I am amazed at what Holy Spirit created in this piece and I’m not real sure what they all mean. I would love to hear your thoughts.

It is very interesting to look at the piece and the meaning of the colors. After the piece was completed I looked the colors up and I was amazed!

Here is a list of colors and their meanings:

Lavender                   Transparency/vulnerability, fragrance, intercession

Orange                       Courage, passion, dunamis power, fire, harvest, strength

Green                         New beginnings, growth, hope, restoration
